Investing in yourself means attending conferences, seminars, and workshops that will provide you with valuable, meaningful, knowledge on a particular topic. If these events offer something of substance, they will come with a price.

In August of 2009, hip hop artist, Drake, released a song entitled, Successful. In it, the main chorus of the song stated, I just want to be successful. For months, the song remained on the charts, as individuals walked around singing that very chorus; I just want to be successful. Ironically, as I consult with individuals on a daily basis looking to be successful at starting their own business, I often question them as to whether they are really ready to do what it takes to be successful. You see, many people talk about wanting to BE successful, but the harsh reality is that VERY FEW people are willing to take the necessary steps to obtain it.

For you to be successful at building your own business or at achieving any goal you set for yourself, something special has to occur inside of you. Success begins in your head. It begins with a state of mind. You must first Develop a mindset for success.

Statistics state that a large percentage of the population has a desire to start their own business, yet only a small percentage ever step out and take the risk to actually do so. While the allure of becoming your own boss and creating your own destiny is certainly appealing, the thought of failing, losing everything you have worked so hard to build, and putting your family at risk is not.

So what options are there for the individual who has an entrepreneurial dream but doesn’t want to risk losing the security of a steady paycheck and benefits to pursue it?

For many who find themselves in this situation, becoming a part-time entrepreneur just might be the thing for you. A new self-started enterprise could rejuvenate you and give you an eventual opportunity to leave your job with minimal risks.

There are many advantages, as well as disadvantages to starting your business on a part-time basis, so it is imperative that you way out all of your options. Read more

What is it that paralyzes us and causes us to forgo our dreams of starting our own business? The problem is that many of us are stuck in our own comfort zone. We have all heard of the Comfort Zone. In the book, “From Comfort Zone to Performance Management”, author Alasdair White, a performance management specialist, defines the Comfort Zone as, “a behavioral state within which a person operates in an anxiety-neutral condition, using a limited set of behaviors to deliver a steady level of performance, usually without a sense of risk.” Read more

Turn on any cable news network, and the consensus will be the same regarding the current state of our economy. We are in tough economic times. Unemployment numbers are up, and company revenues are down. Unfortunately, this dark cloud that the media continues to forecast over our nation does not paint an accurate picture of the many opportunities these economic times present.

It is a fact that millions have been forced to realize that the job that offered them financial security was not quite as secure as they thought it was and are facing the humbling reality that the experience and knowledge they poses of their field is not as important to their employer as the company’s bottom line.
